How to Make Apple Pie: By Jessica

So I know that it's been over 3 months since I last posted but I got sick and I started my one personal blog, but here I am! So here is our family recipe for how to make apple pie. I am not a huge fan of apple pie unless there is a ton of ice cream on top, but we make this every year for the holidays when our family comes over and I actually like it. Plus, it's super easy to make!

So here are a list of the Ingredients:

6-8 tart apples
3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
dash ground nutmeg and salt
2 tbsp butter
*double for a 9 by 13 inch pan (use lots of apples!)

If apples lack tartness, sprinkle with about 1 tbsp lemon juice. Combine sugar, flour, spices, and dash of salt; mix with apples. Line 9-inch pie plate with pastry. Fill with apple mixture; dot with butter. Adjust top crust, cutting slits for escape of steam; seal. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Place tin foil under pan for dripping.

So now let's go step-by-step.

1. Make the pie crust

So our apple pie recipe doesn't include a pie dough recipe. So here is one I found on google.

You can use whatever pie crust you want with this recipe. I just found that this one was fast and easy.

So once you have made the dough chill for 2-3 hours or overnight. I made mine the night before thanksgiving and then baked the crust the next morning.

2. Make the filling

Start by washing the apples with cold water and dry. Then peel and thinly slice the apples and add place in a bowl.

I like to line the sink with a plastic bag so that while I'm peeling the apples they all fall into the bag instead of the kitchen counter and floor.

I also made this the night before and found that it made the apples more flavorful, because they had more time to soak in the spices. You will want to start by making the sugar/spice mix. All you have to do is mix the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and salt together. Then you melt the butter and mix in all in with the apples.

I let my apples soak in the mixture overnight for more flavor, but you don't need to.

After my dough was fully chilled I let it sit out for 10 minutes. I then cut it in half and rolled out each piece. I rolled it until it was very thin and covered the pie pan with it. Then I folded the edges and used a fork to press a design around the edges.

Then I proceeded to fill the pie with the apple filling. I added some melted butter on top of the apples and the dough. I also added more cinnamon and sugar on top. Then I baked the pie 375 for an hour. Bake until the filling is bubbling and place the pan on foil to prevent it from spilling.
