I GOT MY PERMIT!!! + TIPS FOR SUCESS! - By Jessica

Hello Everyone! I just recently got my permit! I'm so excited to start the behind the wheel driving process (which so much more fun than drivers ed.) I studied for my test for two weeks (not consistently) and I still got 6 wrong! I'm so glad I studied because 6 is the most you can miss! Here are some tips I picked up from friends, parents, and myself that really helped me during the whole test taking process.

1. Once you have finished your drivers ed. make sure that you get the certificate of completion mailed to you. (you have to bring this to the DMV when applying for a permit).

2. Once you have scheduled your permit test start studying! Just like any other test, studying is the most important aspect for success! I took the DMV Practice tests and they helped me a lot. Also, downloading the DMV app helped for on the go studying.

Here is the link to the DMV Permit Tests -

Here is what the DMV app looks like -

3. Before you leave for your permit test make sure you have

  • Complete a state-approved driver's education course (minimum of 25 hours classroom time).
  • Verify you're at least 15 1/2 years old and younger than age 18 years old.
  • Verify your identity. ...
  • Submit proof of California residency. ...
  • Complete the application, Form DL 44, with parent signatures.

There is more information on the DMV Website…keep in mind that different states may have different requirements, so make sure that you are matching the requirements of the state you live in.

4. Get ready for pictures! They take your picture that will be on your permit and your license so make sure that you do your hair/makeup (if you're a boy do your hair) cause you'll be stuck with that picture for a long time.

5. If you wear glasses or contacts make sure that you bring them for the test! They make you take a vision test. I wear glasses and I'm so glad I brought them…I would have failed the test!

6. Lastly, stay calm! This is very important. When you are nervous you tend to think slower and have jumbled thoughts. It can impair your test taking abilities. You'll probably be a little nervous so make sure that you study extra and keep your nerves under control. :)

Here are some pictures with me getting my permit.

At each station (including the test area) I had to get my fingerprint taken and sign my name.

This is the test taking station where they had either a written test or a computer test. I chose computer because I heard it was easier.

I PASSED!!! YAY!!!

I hope you found my information helpful! I am so glad that the whole permit process is over! Next time i'll be at the DMV applying for my license! Yikes!
