HOW TO CARE FOR CURLY HAIR - BY: JESSICA

Hi Everyone! This is Jessica and I will be talking about tips and tricks on how to care for curly hair. I have naturally curly hair and let me tell you, it hasn’t been easy! I’ve tried a variety of products and treatments.

I can only work with a few hairstlyes but I’ve learned to master them. Although I style my hair exactly the same everyday it seems to have a mind of it’s own and decides to turn out different each time. After lots of research and experimenting I have come up with some tips and tricks on how to care for my curly hair.

Almost every curl is different….try to find your type in the chart below.(POST YOUR HAIR TYPE IN THE COMMENT SECTION BELOW!)

Curly Hair Problems, yep unless it's gonna be messy bun day or I straightened it the night before.:

Curly Hair Problem this is when I straighten it.:

That curly hair:

#1 Use the right products- I’ve tried so many products that I’ve lost track. I’ve tried products from a variety of prices, scents, and textures. In the end I’ve found that brand name products do not work well. After over three years I’ve found a company that sells amazing curly hair products. It’s called Deva Curl. It’s a natural online company which offers shampoo, conditioner, mousse,  gel, and more. I have been using it for six months now and my curls are more healthy and bouncy than ever!

#2 brush wet hair with a wide toothed comb- when I’m in the shower and I have put conditioner in my hair I comb my it. It allows the tangles to come out and it softens your hair.

#3 leave your hair alone- when your hair has finally dried and your curls have formed don’t touch them! Touching, playing with your hair, and running your fingers through your hair is dangerous. It separates your curls and causes your hair to frizz and get larger in size. So leave your hair alone and enjoy your curls.

#4 deep condition/moisturize it once a week- Once a week I deep condition my hair with a morrocan oil treatment I ordered online.

#5 do not brush dry hair- Brushing dry hair causes it to POOF! Every time I have brushed it dry my hair has gone from curly to an afro. I usually wash my hair in the shower every morning for the best results.

#6 do not blow dry (unless you diffuse it)- blow drying your hair after a shower or when it is wet is a bad idea. I’ve tried it and it resulted in frizzy tangled hair and another shower. So, unless your using a diffuser don’t blow dry your hair. Just let your hair air dry

#7 stay away from heat- only use heat such as a flat iron or a curling iron every once in a while. Prolonged heat use can damage your hair by causing split ends and frizzy hair.

This is a before vs after example of Amy. Before her hair was curly, looked unhealthy and had obvious split ends. The other picture shows her again a few days after she started using Sylk for her daily hair routine - I think the change is quite obvious.:

Your hair is very important so taking extra steps to care for it is crucial to get the healthy curls you want. Take advantage of your hair and be confident in your curls!
